· Two Paths to a Better Lawn

Natural Sod or Synthetic Turf — We Install Both in Georgetown.

Georgetown lawns face a specific challenge: hard clay soil that drains poorly, intense summer heat regularly topping 100°F, and months with little rainfall — plus the occasional hard freeze like the 2021 winter storm that killed off lawns across Williamson County. Not every grass variety survives it, and not every yard is suited for natural grass at all. CTX installs both natural sod and synthetic turf so you can choose the right fit for your situation.

Natural sod — St. Augustine, Bermuda, and Zoysia — is the right choice for most full-sun lawns in Georgetown. Installed correctly with soil prep and irrigation, these grasses establish well and hold through the summer. Georgetown sits in USDA hardiness zone 8b, which suits all three varieties.

Synthetic turf is the right choice for high-traffic areas, shaded zones where grass won't grow, dog runs, putting greens, and any Georgetown homeowner who wants a green lawn without the maintenance or water restrictions. We use pet-safe infill options and products built for Texas heat.

· How It Works

From Bare Ground to Finished Lawn.

Site Assessment

We evaluate sun exposure, existing drainage, soil condition, and how the space is used to recommend the right turf type for your yard.

Existing Removal

Dead grass, weeds, and existing vegetation are removed and disposed of. The area is cleared to bare soil or subgrade for synthetic base prep.

Soil & Base Prep

For sod: soil is graded, amended, and raked. For synthetic: a compacted aggregate base is installed with a weed barrier for clean drainage and stability.

Install

Sod is laid in a staggered brick pattern, seams pressed tight, and rolled. Synthetic turf is rolled, seamed, trimmed, infilled, and brushed upright.

Final Grade & Handoff

Edges are secured, the site is cleaned, and we walk you through the establishment watering schedule for sod or maintenance basics for synthetic.

For most Georgetown-area yards in USDA zone 8b, Bermuda is the most heat and drought-tolerant natural option — it goes dormant in winter but recovers aggressively in spring and handles water restrictions better than other varieties. St. Augustine handles partial shade better and stays green longer into fall. Zoysia is a good middle ground with a fine texture and good heat tolerance. For heavily shaded areas, high-traffic zones, or if you want to eliminate watering concerns during Georgetown's summer restrictions, synthetic turf is often the better choice.
Synthetic turf does get warmer than natural grass in direct sun — surface temperatures can be significantly higher on peak summer afternoons. This is most relevant for barefoot play areas. Turf in shaded areas stays much cooler, and evening temperatures drop quickly. We select products with heat-reducing infill options for Texas installations and discuss this honestly with every client.
Synthetic turf requires minimal maintenance. Occasional rinsing to remove dust and debris, periodic brushing to keep the fibers upright, and spot cleaning for pet waste. There's no mowing, fertilizing, or aerating. We provide full maintenance guidance at handoff.
No — not correctly. Installing over existing vegetation leads to uneven settling, dead material decomposing under the surface, and poor drainage. We always remove existing grass and prep the soil or base properly. This is the step that determines how long the installation holds up.
